Heroic Colors

Heroes, as we are all pretty aware, tend to not hold back when it comes to wearing various colors.  In fact, some comic book teams are known for their rainbow of colored uniforms - such as Justice League and Teen Titans.

Color can affect the psychology of those around you.  A man dressed in black with a nearly entire face covering will probably come off to an average joe citizen as “bad guy”.  In fact, you may have even visualized a bank robber or street thug with that single sentence.  This is due to our preconceived notions of color and status.  If you had someone in black, but featured a logo and trim/accessories in a color, that person doesn’t strike us as a such a bad guy.

Standard Colors - Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Black, Brown, White.  These are the most basic of colors.

Alternative Colors - Neon colors, glow in the dark, shifting colors (transitions between 2 colors)

Shine - Metallics, glitters, reflective materials

metallic (silver), red glitter, rainbow reflective fabric (otherwise looks grey)

These are all things that should be taken into consideration with one’s uniform. If you are looking for various types of fabric, you should check Mood Fabrics. Remember that a fun uniform can be icing on the cake, so to speak. You can build protective measures under or over the uniform.

Questions to consider when designing your uniform:

  • How will people perceive my appearance?

  • How will police and security perceive my appearance?

  • Does my uniform reflect my hero goals?

  • Does my uniform reflect my heroic persona?
