Patrol Logs

Patrol Logs were a common thing with early RLSH in the early 00s and 10s. Usually this was done on a blog. This kept RLSH encouraged to go out repeatedly so they could write up more content. It also allowed anyone a little insight on what RLSH were doing and provided a "history of action".
Some might claim that they were inspired by Rorschach from ‘Watchmen’ or by The Tick’s monologuing, but it does trail back to Dr. John Watson who, in the stories, was responsible for telling the tales of Sherlock Holmes. In the 2010-2017 tv series ‘Sherlock’, Dr. Watson did this through a blog.

Within these logs are an account of the patrol, sometimes video or photos. It may include notes on people encountered, areas of concern, notes on homeless camps or drug dealings or other unsavory sites, graffiti, local gang activity, etc. It may also include RLSH community service, meet ups, HOPE event details, etc. It may also include any publicity that the hero may warrant - news, podcasts, etc.
A great reason to start a patrol log is to help you track your activities, create a written log, and to create a more firm hero persona. If you feel the need to monologue, do it. Patrol logs are a great way to make your presence known. It's also not as social as social media and can be a great way to keep your RLSH life separate from your real life.
It might be a good idea to have something that is NOT on social media, which is why you should consider a blog (easy and free to set up). Social media is filled with bot accounts, AI content, and lots of bullshit. Creating your own patrol logs in an easy format is a great way to go. Also, followers of your blog are less likely to be complete shitheads. Usually blog followers are there because they find value in the content of your work.
New RLSH have not latched onto the idea of patrol logs (yet). There are loads of free options out there. Here are some good options to check out:
Blogger (part of Google, also Btemplates for various blogger templates)
Old RLSH Patrol Logs (still available to read):
Illya King - Zetaman (RLSH and comics) and old articles relating to RLSH
Heroes in The Night - Tea Krulos
Amazonia's Journal & Site
If you start your own RLSH patrol blog, please let me know. I'll link to it under Resources.
On an entire other note, if you are an RLSH, please take a moment to fill out this RLSH 2025 Demographics Survey. It's anonymous. Just looking to gather some general information to study (data analysis is just something I like to do). I will do a write up on it either in late-December or early-January.
The next "Notes From The Rooftops" will be on the topic of: Film/TV that helped inspired you and how. Please keep your responses to ~500 words. Deadline: End of November. If you are an RLSH (active or retired) and you would like to contribute, please send an email to Raven (raven@herocore.online).
NEW PROJECT. I'm starting a new RLSH Annual Comic Book Project. (tabs up top: Resources > Comic Book Project). This is a collection of short RLSH tales in an anthology type of graphic novel. Looking for artists, editors, and RLSH to share their stories. Deadline is Dec. 31.
If there is something you would like to see me discuss here on Herocore, please feel free to contact me.
