RLSH at Protests

It’s Monday, June 9th.  Today is day 4 of the LA Anti-ICE Riots.  Rallies in support of LA, protesting ICE’s unlawful actions (no due process, violations of rights, unnecessary violence resulting in angrier crowds) are scheduled to happen today and throughout the rest of the week around the nation.

If you need to catch up on the news, please do so.  Google “LA Anti-ICE Riots”, watch the LA news on youtube or websites (ABC LA, KTLA, CNN), check Reuters or the Associated Press.  It’s all over the place and there is no reason you should be ignorant of current events.

As RLSH, you may feel the need to attend the protests.

Here’s what you need to be aware of:

  • Remain Lawful - If you remain lawful, there should be no reason for harm to come your way.  That doesn’t mean it won’t, only that it shouldn’t.

  • Right to Defend - You have the right to defend yourself and others with less than or equal force.  Greater force is considered assault.

  • Right to Protest - Everyone has the right to protest in a peaceful manner.

  • Record Yourself - Strap a camera to your chest, helmet, or shoulder and have it recording while you’re at a protest.  This will cover your butt and may come in useful later.

  • Encourage Others to Be Peaceful - We don’t want vandalism or unnecessary violence.  Encourage people to take heed and be cautious during a protest.

  • First Aid - If things go south, like they are in LA, people are going to start needing on-site first aid. If tear gas is deployed the canisters become hot, so make sure you have gloves on before tossing it back. Carry extra water to help flush eyes of mace, pepper spray, or tear gas.

Be careful out there. Video is king. Make sure you record yourself.
